Community Connector

Niall Cloonan

Niall is our Community Connector and has been in

the post since April 2016. He is a native of Galway and has a background in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Niall is a very relaxed, fun, open, and easy-going person. His interests are varied and include reading, dogs, podcasts, music, psychology, documentaries, philosophy, MMA and lots of things in between!

Niall is embracing his role in the University, as he has a keen awareness of the challenges that can come with socialising and making connections as a student. He is looking forward to meeting with many more students and supporting them to make the connections that enable them to have the best overall student experience possible.

What does the Community Connector do?
The Community Connector is a new service that looks to work collaboratively with students in a relaxed manner to discuss their hobbies and interests over a friendly chat. Students will be provided with the necessary level of support from the Community Connector to pursue these interests, at a pace that is comfortable for them.
This is a self-referral process, so students only have to visit the Community Connector webpage to book an appointment at a time that’s convenient for them. Niall will also be present in The Hub each Tuesday-Thursday from 2 – 4 pm for a drop-in where students can call in, ask questions, or just have a cup of tea and a chat!
As well as these individual chats, the Community Connector also organises weekly student-focused social events.
  • T.G.I. Friday will take place each week from 5 – 8 pm in The Hub, Aras na Mac Leinn.
  • The Global Lounge takes place every Saturday from 12 – 3 pm in The Hub, Aras na Mac Leinn.

These are chilled-out, friendly events where students can decide what they would like to do from event to event. This ranges from watching movies, playing board games, cooking different types of food, listening to music and just sitting around talking with each other!  There is a wide range of snacks, tea, coffee and use of the new kitchen!
